Description

Monterey GlassWorks is a working production glass studio staffed by glass artists. We are located one block off the beach in the West End Arts District area of the Monterey Peninsula.

Our facility includes both a hot and warm shop which, when not used for production are available for instruction, artist rental and residencies for global visiting artists. We also host private glass art events for parties up to 35.

Special Features

Warm Shop includes: Upright casting kilns, a Paragon GL20 and a 84" x 44" bell kiln for fusing. The large bell kiln must be scheduled in advance but is available for large fusings.

Cold Shop includes: Horizontal and Vertical belt sanders. Dual axis grinding/polishing mill, Glass/Tile saw, Drill Press with glass bits, Sandblasting chamber, Foredom rotary tool, Ring Saw and Gryphon grinder. 1st time users will need to complete a walk through and safety checklist test prior to using.

Shop Tools: Safety equipment (masks, safety glasses, ventilation hood), Tools (pliers, brushes, circle cutter, rulers, powder dispensers), Molds (numerous varied), Bench/Table space.

Supplies: fiber paper of various thickness, Bullseye Thinfire, Kilnwash, Casting plaster & silica. Scrap Glass - Open Studio renters are allowed to use scrap studio glass (clear tekta & whatever random colors we are working with at the time). We ask visiting students/artists to bring their own preferred glass with them for project work, but can sell out of our production stock if necessary.

Glass: We are a bullseye shop and only use 90COE in the warm shop. If you wish to run 96, you will need to discuss prior so we can schedule around others in the shared kilns.
